How does the bidding process work?
For Pre-Release and Pending Delete domains, you will need to first place a backorder for at least the Minimum Bid amount before the Order By/Closing Time deadline. If you are the only member to place a backorder by the deadline, you will be awarded the domain without an auction at your backorder bid amount when the domain becomes available.
If two or more members place backorders on the same name, an auction will be held between those individuals when the domain becomes available.
If the auction type is Private, no additional bidders can join the auction after the deadline. If the auction type is Public, additional bidders may join while the auction is open.
What is the minimum backorder or bid amount for auctions?
The default minimum backorder bid amount is typically between $69 and $79.
Some domains may have a higher minimum backorder or reserve bid amount. You can enter a minimum bid of $69 to be included in the auction, but the domain will not be awarded unless the minimum/reserve is met.
Are proxy bids supported for auctions?
Yes. A proxy bid represents the highest amount you are willing to bid for a particular domain. Proxy bids are supported only during auctions. Backorders are NOT proxy bids.
When you enter a bid during an auction, the proxy bidding system will bid in $10 increments when the current bid is under $1,000, and $100 increments when the current bid is $1,000 or higher. The system will stop bidding incrementally once your maximum proxy amount is reached, and you would need to raise the proxy amount to continue bidding.
How much can I bid?
Bidders are restricted to $2,500 collectively on all active auctions. There is effectively no limit on bids for Verified Bidders. For further information, please see Verified Bidder Process and Advantages.
Are there any fees in addition to my bid?
With NameJet you pay what you bid. Domain registrations are included with Pending Delete and Pre-Release auctions. Sunrise and Landrush processes may be an exception. For example, with any Sunrise or Landrush, additional pre-registration fees or multiple year registration fees may be charged by the sponsoring registrar or registry.
Will I receive an email if I am outbid in an auction?
Yes. You will receive an email indicating the login name, the domain name, the current high bid, and the auction ending date/time. A link is provided if you wish to increase your bid.
How long does an auction last?
Auctions last for three days, however if a bid is placed within the last 5 minutes, the auction will be extended 5 minutes from the last accepted bid to prevent sniping.
